Thank god for laptops and wireless Internet. Instead of sanding the stairway skim coat (which we appled yesterday), today I'm laying in bed with a bad cold. Trissa has been working up a storm since she got up at 7am: cleaning, cooking, shopping, and yes - sanding. She's been popping her head in here every half hour to check on me. (Thanks Trissa, you're #1)

For once, it looks as if our neighbor is getting more done on his house than we are. His house is kinda like ours, in that since I moved in, both houses have been under various states of reconstruction. I find humor in the fact that the sides of the houses that face each other have been at least partially bare of siding for over a year now; ours covered with felt paper, and his totally exposed to the elements. But as of this week, he’s got a crew working on the house, and one of the things they’

Thanks to the Holiday weekend, I was able to tackle more of the skim coating on the walls by the staircase. It’s looking pretty good, until you look really close. There are sections that I’m very proud of, but I’m still learning how to apply a smooth

So we went to Rejuve and they had quite a bit of stuff on sale. They even had the doorbell I liked on sale, but we decided we were going to look for one that has a different twist/knob mechanism. Then we found the Sears, Roebuck Home Builder's Catalog:

Our house is on a pretty steep incline as you can probably tell from the pictures. The sidewalk is after the first set of steps up from the street. We would love to put a garage in the side of the hill someday, but we have no idea if this is possible.

There are many great things about living in an old home, but one downside is that the older foundations can become a welcome door for those who should be living outside in a field! After Nick bought the house, a few small tenants made it known that this

We just got back from a community event down the street at the "Old Cooper School". “Old” Cooper School is one of those large, old, architecturally interesting brick school buildings that have stood dormant for years because… Well, most likely because

The kitchen in out house is high on the priority’s list of renovation projects. But the cost and duration of the project are also high, and so we’ve been lamenting for some time now.
But we got lucky earlier this year, and now we have a valid stay on our plans. Not that we intend to wait indefinitely…

Work seems to be taking too much time lately & I'm feeling like we're not accomplishing much on the home renovation projects. But then again, if we didn't work we wouldn't have any money to finish all the projects that we've started, or be able to

I slept more today than I worked on the mantel, but somehow still managed to make some progress. The mantel top is 1 3/4" thick, consisting of the plankI bought the other week at 2nd Use, laminated to a 5/8" piece of plywood on the underside. Today I

Instead of working on the stairway skim coat like I did last night, tonight I upgraded the site with new software! A good thing too, since the Beta version of Community Server we were using expired this morning, and we were down for a few hours. But the
