Enjoying your vacation?

Today we have a special guest post from my dad, who's been visiting this week from Wisconsin. 

This is my last morning in Seattle.  Over the course of the week, several people asked if I was enjoying my "vacation" helping Nick & Trissa on their house.  The short answer is "yes it's been great".  Explaining why it's been great is a little more difficult.  It's the satisfaction I get from a hard day of physical labor.  It's being able to sit on Nick & Trissa's front porch at the end of a long day and enjoy a beer before a good meal.  It's seeing an old house being gutted and put back together.  It's being able to interact with Nick & Trissa in a way that I wouldn't do on a regular vacation.  It's getting to meet Nick and Trissa's friends.  And it's stopping work occasionally, looking around, and realizing that I'm  as happy as I've been for a long time.

Great post! Makes me miss my dad. And yes, if you ever need more physical labor, come on down to Eureka. Its close - hint, hint. Seriously, though, there is nothing like a hard days work on your own house to really make you feel like you've accomplished something good. The harder I work the more luck I seem to have.

My dad does what he can, he has a heart condition, so he can't work the way he used to. He built a house in the mid 70's while working a full time job. He's more of the problem solver, I'm more of the work horse, pouring the concrete, and doing the hard labour.

You put that so well. I can never seem to describe the pleasure there is in doing all this work. You hit the nail on the head-hahaha.

My Dad doesn't do this kind of stuff. Steve's Dad does, but they always seem to argue when they work together, so that's not so good.
It's nice you enjoy working and then kicking back together.
