What motivates you?
Anyways, I was thinking yesterday about what motivates people, especially relating to home renovation. It was very energizing to get the last of the tubing connected to the manifold and be ready to have the radiant floor system tested. We are so far from being finished with the first floor, but that was a milestone for me. Our next milestone will be getting the floors installed. The list continues from there. What keeps you motivated and working on your house?

Really, that's it. "Finishing" anything is actually a de-motivator for me. Makes me want to sit around and admire whatever was finished and ignore everything else.

At night I dream of all of the lovely partys we will have in this house with friends and family. That and the fact that Tim promised said friends and family that Christmas would be here this year.

I think visualizing the finished product helps me a lot. Essential projects seem to go faster, than things like stripping trim and doors. Seeing all the huge projects people are doing on houseblogs helps too.

This may seem kind of silly, but for anybody who plays video games (rather HAS TIME to play video games) the sims 2 really helps me organize what I imagine the house will look like. It has this really detailed house builder, and once I see how everything can fit together in my house when it's done, it motivates me to actually get to those stages. And instead of trying to develop my little sims to a point where they are actually earning enough money to make upgrades to there little bungalows, I just use money cheat codes... I just wish I could do this in real life.

It used to be visualizing what the house could be, then it was the closure on the smaller projects that we did, now it is desperation for a clean/warm/comfortable living space!

Approaching cold weather is a big motivator right now. Also, when we get bogged down by too many big projects spinning at once, we're energized by completing a relatively small one in one day or evening. It gives us a sense of accomplishment and hope for completing the other, bigger projects :-)

Two things really. First, there was/is just so much that needs to be done just to make the house livable. Second, it is the fear of missed opportunity. I am in a unique situation that I have some money for projects and I’m only working part-time. In three years from now, if all I had to show for it was an intimate knowledge of what the cast of Days of Our Lives was up to I would not stop kicking myself for the next 10 years.

I'm motivated by all of you and your seeminly never-ending energy to tackle new projects.

We're also motivated by our own egos, I think. And the glow we get when someone says "Wow, you did this yourself??".

And, of course, thoughts of winter approaching.... that is really starting to freak me out!
