1 clawfoot tub, 2 flights of stairs, and 3 men
We were ready to move the tub upstairs so it was time to call our friends (again)! Jon and Sean came through (the demolition party and other tasks had not yet scared them away). First they moved the tub out of the shop and up the outside stairs to our entryway. Next  we had to contemplate the best way to carry it up the staircase without injuring the  stairwell, anyone's back, or the tub itself. It went pretty smoothly around the bottom corner:

and then the top corner:

(That's easy for me to say since I wasn't doing any of the lifting!)

They took a much needed rest while they figured out how to then get it through the hallway and the doorway into the bath:

The plan worked, the tub is in place and today we will begin to connect the plumbing. I researched the best way to clean the porcelain and I'll report on how that went when I'm done- unless anyone has some good advice- we're not going to get it resurfaced for awhile and it's not in too bad of shape, so it should be okay with a good cleaning.

Hooray!

Nick, I see you fit in your tub much better than I do ours. ;-)

You've got a lot of courage to take a tub up stairs, btw. We 'outsourced' that work to the guys laying the bathroom tile. My back thanked me...I hope yours is ok.

Aaron - I've carried worse up our stairs. I think the tub was about 250lbs - the Sub Zero was closer to 650. If you saw the stairs that lead up to the house from the street, you'd understand. The tub was _nothin_.

Ha - good to know that 3 brawny men can get a clawfoot tub up a flight of stairs. I'm filing that fact away for future reference ;)

Ok,

This may sound too simplistic, but we have had VERY good luck with those Mr Clean Magic Erasers that cost like $1.90 for a pair. Our tub was dirty when we bought our house and then got dirtier during remodeling and we could not get it clean. I saw these stupid things and thought that i can't go wrong far a couple of bucks. It ended up cleaning our tub better than any combination of cleaners we have tried. The erasers look like a piece of dense white foam and that is it, i have no idea how they work, they just seem to.

I second Ron's suggestion. The Magic Eraser (TM) is a true wonder of modern science. I have no clue how or why they work, but they just do.
