Progress

It's much faster hiring someone to come in and do the mudding and taping for the drywall- especially with a baby. We came home from our trip to Iowa to find the walls taped, mudded and primed. It is so nice to look at clean, smooth walls. I especially like how the section with the old chimney turned out.

We were able to paint the pantry last weekend and Nick installed the shelving. There's some trim that goes up along the edges and around the cat door. Once I finish the door, then that room will be done! I did go ahead and put everything away which was a great feeling.

This weekend we'll be putting plastic up again as they come to refinish the fir floors next week. We're going to stay out of the house the entire week as we're going with Swedish finish. With Atticus we figure we should stay out at least 3 or 4 days after the floors are done for the house to air out.  Anyone have their floors redone lately? How long did it take for the fumes to be gone?

Hey, that looks great! I hear the swedish finish is super durable, but really toxic. I don't think they sell it to the general public. I think once it cures it's fine though, have the people doing the floors told you how long you have to stay out of the house?

They recommended a couple of days- so we'll be out probably 3, maybe 4, and we will be upstairs when we get back and keep the windows open for awhile. I think it should work out fine.

We had the swedish finish done on our floors, and it is really durable and pretty. We had it done about 3 weeks before we moved in, not sure when the fumes had actaully cleared out. It did give me a headache for a while, but I think I'm kind of sensitive to chemicals. It didn't bother my husband at all. If you want reccomendations for floor refinshers, it's probably the only contractor we've hired that did a really good job.

I figure we won't spend much time at home if we can smell the fumes at all, especially with the baby. We had a recommendation from a friend and are using A & B Hardwoods. He's been refinishing floors since 1957, so I'm trusting that he knows what he's doing. Who did you end up using? Thanks for the offer for the contractor!

OMG! Atticus is such a cutie pie and so tall! How tall is he now?

Grace and I just moved back into the house tonight after being gone since Monday when the floors were done, if that is helpful.

I think the chimney looks wonderful. I have the same thing in my kitchen but luckily it was on a corner so I got two sides of the chimney.. I even have that same funny little pipe all cemented off at the top.......

looks really nice- it will be quite a transformation by the time you're through. I have heard similar about the Swedish finishes- but the fumes I know are bad.
