Nick has been spending a lot of time getting ready for the concrete countertops. We made concrete countertops for the wine cellar a few years ago, but we wanted them to turn out a bit rough, so we didn't grind them or polish them. The kitchen countertops will have a more finished surface and we're adding aggregate to them as well. We watched the video the other night & he talked with his dad tonight to go over their plans. We have 5 different counters: the baking center, the island, the counter above the sink, and the counter by the sink and by the stove. Nick is hoping to have all the materials ready, the measurements done and the space prepped so they can get right to work on building the forms when his parents arrive. They'll be working in a neighbors garage so we don't have to worry about all the dust from the grinding. That will mean we will need to round up help once again for carrying them up our 33 stairs, but I think I can bribe some friends with a good dinner & some beverages. In the meantime,I'll get ready by coming up with a plan for the toy box made out of old kitchen cabinet doors and think about what color dishtowels I'd like to get to compliment the countertops!
