Trim, then windows?
Last week Nick finished installing the trim for all the first floor doorways. The most time consuming was the trim for the 1/2 bath, since it has a pocket door. It matches the door to the pantry, so he had to install the hardware for the door as well. It sure is nice to be able to close and lock the bathroom door! (I'm sure that will be even better once Atticus is old enough to open the door!)
We went around town and looked at some options for windows. We'll be getting double hung windows to match the design of the original windows. On the second floor we have aluminum clad windows that were probably installed in the 60's. The archive photo shows the original double hung windows.
We weren't impressed with many of the choices out there, but there are still a few to look at. We have someone from Renewal by Anderson coming out for a quote in a couple of weeks. We've heard they are a bit expensive, but the quality looked pretty good.
Then we get to make many decisions about the siding. In the archive photo below you can see what was original- we have to replace quite a bit of the wood, so we'll see what we decide on. On choice would be to change the siding on the dormers to be vertical. (We know that the old shake siding is toast and can't be saved.) Sorry about the poor quality of the photo, for some reason I couldn't get a better one uploaded.
Choices, choices, choices... but the transformation will be huge!
