unemployed - week 1

Being unemployed hasn't helped my stress level much, but it's starting to have an effect on the various projects around here:

  1. I've got three four window sashes glued up.  nine eight more to go.
  2. I glued up two remaining cabinet doors for the kitchen
  3. Also the door of the island garbage pull-out
  4. Cut, assembled and glued up the two drawer fronts for the nook
  5. Fixed my old (now Atticus') workbench.  Thanks, UPS.
  6. Listed on Craigslist, and sold, my old benchtop router table, to a 14yo kid who'd mom brought him over.  He's going to make signs with it.
  7. Listed on Craigslist, and sold, my folding portable mitre-box stand.  I didn't have room for it anymore and now that major construction is done I don't need the saw upstairs anymore.
  8. Cleaned my shop, in preparation for the new cyclone dust collector I ordered a few days before getting laid off. 

The dust collector is an Oneida Portable.  It was supposed to arrive today, but didn't.  Here's a picture:

Sorry to hear about your job Nick. That's a nice looking dust system, must be a lot better than a shop vac. We have our shop in the house too, and dust is probably one of the biggest issues. I think that unit is too pricey for me.

I've been laid off three times in my career (volatile industry).  Somehow it always works out for the best.  It's weird how you go through this stressed phase, and then fall into a get lots of things done around the house phase.  When you get a new job, it's hard to imagine how you are going to fit it into your busy life :-)

Loved the story of the 14 yr old buying the router....and the photos of your son at his new workbench.
