  • Taping complete

They finished the laying the tape yesterday and I wish I could have just hung out and watched them work. These guys are pretty good- they've been doing this for a long time and they work quickly and the tape is so straight and smooth. They'll be back today to do some more work & hopefully they'll be done by the end of the weekend. Yahoo! ...

  • Ready and waiting

The drywall contractor came out last week and gave us a bid later the same day. He called Nick on Friday and said he could start on Monday if we would be ready. We are ready and waiting. This weekend was filled with taking care of all the details:•    double checking that all the screws were in •     removing ...

  • Smooth wall

We got a recommendation for someone to do the taping and mudding of the drywall for a smooth wall finish. He came out today to make a bid and Nick was able to come home during his lunch hour so it worked out perfectly. After looking at some of the drywall he asked us again if we did this ourselves. He said he hadn't seen any other drywall done as ...

  • Walls

If a picture paints a thousand words, then here's a hint at what our next post will be about. This is what we've been up to the past couple of weeks when Atticus lets us work...(Or should I say, Nick work!) We're too tired to write about it now, but we will blog soon!

  • We've got a ceiling

Thanks to the drywall lift that Marilu is lending us We now have a ceiling in the living room and dining room. The lift works really well & the only thing that would make it better is if it could carry drywall up from the street. We hired some day labor to carry the drywall up, so Nick had enough energy to install some this weekend. Of ...

  • Friends

Where would we all be without friends? I mentioned to a friend that Nick had decided to hang the drywall himself and that we would then hire out the mudding and taping. Luckily this isn't a friend who gets tired of hearing about our projects and instead told me that she owns a drywall jack. One of my jobs this week was to research and find the ...

  • Let the drywall begin

When I asked Nick what he wanted to do for Father's Day he said he wanted to work on the house. So we had breakfast together and he got to work. He's decided to go ahead and hang the drywall himself, and then we will hire someone to do the mudding and taping. So yesterday he headed to buy 8 sheets of drywall, carry them up the 33 stairs to the ...

  • Hot mud!

Okay.  So I got talked into mudding and taping the new drywall in the upstairs bath, such that it could be painted and look cozy and stuff.  Have I mentioned I’m not very fond of mudding and taping? With the possible exception of a few comical moments where the floor received more mud than the walls, this mudding job has actually gone ...

  • Drywall is an art form

Thanks to the Holiday weekend, I was able to tackle more of the skim coating on the walls by the staircase. It’s looking pretty good, until you look really close. There are sections that I’m very proud of, but I’m still learning how to apply a smooth skim coat without tool marks like they describe in the drywall book we read. If the ...
